Time for a masculine card with Father’s Day coming up this weekend. What better stamp set to use than Best Catch and the co-ordinating Catch of the Day dies. When I first got this set, I knew that I wanted to make a spinner card – this was several months ago and I finally got a chance to make one.
Mossy Meadow is the card base color with a mat of Crumb Cake and the scene on Whisper White. I first punched out a small circle on a post it note ( for an early morning moon )and adhered it to the panel and then brayered Balmy Blue across the top for the sky. From the High Tide stamp set, I stamped the water with Balmy Blue classic ink, the sand with Crumb Cake classic ink and the grass with Old Olive classic Ink.
I next stamped the hills from Waterfront with Smoky Slate classic ink and outlined the tops with the Light Smoky Slate blend. The birds from High Tide was stamped with Black Memento ink.
The fisherman is stamped with Black Memento Ink and colored with Balmy Blue classic ink, So Saffron Stampin’ Write Marker and Shaded Spruce Stamin’ Write Marker. It was cut out with the Catch of the Day dies and adhered to the focal panel with Multipurpose Liquid glue.
For the spinner portion on the inside of the card, I stamped the fish on Whisper White card stock with Black Memento Ink. I then stamped it on the Silicone Craft Sheet and then pressed a piece of Whisper White card stock onto the image to transfer it to the card stock to create a mirror image.
I colored in the fish with Calypso Coral blends, light and dark, and Crumb Cake blends, light and dark and cut it out with the co-ordinating die. It was a bit tricky cutting out the mirror image as I had to place the die on the back of the colored image and hold it up to the light to ensure that it was fairly well placed to cut it out. It turned out okay – lol!
On the panel I carried over the theme from the front of the card with the water, sand and grass. I cut a piece of Whisper White card stock for the back portion and after cutting out the circle for the spinner, laid this piece behind the panel to stamp the water.
To add the fish as the spinner portion, I used clear fishing line and laid it on the centre of the fold on the back and secured it with scotch tape at the top and bottom. I then added one of the fish with Tear and Tape and then adhered the other fish to it.
On the Whisper White portion cut 4 3/4″ x 5 1/4″, I adhered it to the inside of the card base lining up the score line with the centre score line of the card base.
The large panel was lined up with this back panel and then adhered to the card base. I finished the card with the sentiment stamped in Mossy Meadow.
Wind up the fish and close the card and when the recipient opens it, the fish spins around.
Card stock measurements:
- Mossy Meadow – 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2, score at 4 1/4″
- Crumb Cake – 5 1/8″ x 3 7/8″
- Whisper White – front panel – 5″ x 3 3/4″; inside panel 5 1/4″ x 8 1/2″ score at 2 1/2″, 4 1/4″, 6″; back panel 5 1/4″ x 4 3/4″ score at 2 3/8″
